Kindergarten Exams
BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENTS EARLY
As of January 1, 2008, the state of Illinois requires eye exams within one year prior to entering kindergarten, as well as for all students who are entering school in Illinois for the first time.
The law states that the exam must also include an internal and external evaluation of the eye. In order to obtain an internal view of the eye, dilating drops must be used. If you feel your child may have a problem with the drops, speaking with them ahead of time about how it is a necessary and harmless part of the exam may help to better prepare your child (especially if it is their first exam) for the visit.
Proof of the eye examination must be submitted by October 15 of each school year. Schools may withhold report cards if a child does not comply with the new regulation. Many children have been found with significant eye problems since the inception of this plan. A yearly eye examination is always recommended, but additional eye examinations may be required by the school at various grade levels if school authorities feel it is necessary.
Vision disorders can sometimes be detrimental to the performance of your child at school. This law is designed to catch any preventable and treatable eye problems early on before it is too late.
Please remember to schedule an eye examination for your child well in advance before the start of the next school year. If there is a need for glasses, it is better for the child to receive them prior to classes starting so that there is plenty of time to adapt to a new prescription.

Driver's License Vision Exam and newest instrumentation
Our office will perform and complete your driver's license vision exam so that you do not have to wait in line for a vision screening at the license renewal center. Forms are completed in our office and is good for 6 months from time of your eye examination. Avoid the stress of driver's license renewal and get a comprehensive eye examination.
The Octopus 900Pro, is the most sophisticated auto perimeter and most accurate instrument of its kind to map out your peripheral vision for the driver's license exam. We will gladly perform your test for you to avoid the stress of long lines at the driver's license facility.
Our Maestro 2 Topcon OCT/HD fundus photo instrument will do many functions such as analyze the deeper layers in the back of your eyes of what the doctor cannot view during a regular exam. We often find diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration before it shows more obviously during a routine exam. It measures cornea thickness and anterior chamber depth and many other features. Ask about our OCT Wellness Screening test that will help complete your comprehensive eye examination. Also added in November 2023, added the newest Medmont Meridia Pro topographer to perform topography, tear break up time for dry eyes, Eye gland analysis for dry eyes, more accurate contact lens fitting analysis to handle sophisticated myopia management cases, and other specialty lenses, measure blink rate, pupil size analysis to help PreLASIK prep.
Our two Nidek Autorefractor that has many more features than our previous Nidek instrument. Another new Canon Noncontact tonometer that is more modern than our present Canon tonometer that makes our office more efficient with two of them, especially during our rush hour times. We also have the I-Care Bounce technology tonometer that does not use drops or puff and has been use on pets for many years. If you dislike drops or the puff, ask for the new I-Care method. We also have the tonopen Avia which has also been used on animals for people who are sensitive to the other methods. Goldman tonometry using Fluress drops that numbs the eyes is still a gold standard to measure eye pressure that we have had for many decades.
We are one of the first practices in USA to obtain the Zeiss Clarus 500( we are now on our upgraded 4th Clarus instrument in 5 years) which is an over 200 degree ultra wide view of the back of the eye to help detect, observe retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy and other peripheral retinal diseases that are often difficult to detect with the basic ophthalmoscope that doctors use in routine eye examinations. We now offer a screening for determining if there are any potential problems in the retina for a reasonable screening fee. If a ICD 10 code condition is found, then billable to your health insurance plan for the full regular fee.
Our latest 2021 technology is the Topcon CV 5000 digital refraction system which allows social distancing during these difficult pandemic times. The instrument that normally sits in front of the patient's face is now an instrument which has lenses that turns automatically inside the unit from distance at the touch of the doctor's finger tips on a remote desktop unit. The doctor is at a distance turning a dial and taps buttons to perform the usual tests to determine a more precise prescription digitally, using new techniques to compare choices. We hope that this new experience will make your visit more efficient.
