Eye Issue Treatments
Our office treats medical eye diseases with utmost priority. If you suddenly experience a red eye (which may signify a bacterial, allergic or viral infection), we will take care of it immediately.
If you get any foreign objects in your eyes such as metal, call immediately. |
If there is a family history of glaucoma, we will perform a thorough evaluation and determine the extent of your condition and prescribe the appropriate medication. Dry eye problems are also evaluated with many tests to determine the extent of your condition and be treated accordingly with over-the-counter or prescription eye drops and/or punctal plugs. If dry eye drops are not enough, we now have TearCare System to treat your condition with open-eye in office procedure to target the underlying cause of your dry eye. Macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetes, and hypertension are carefully documented and observed using the latest technology such as a digital fundus camera with nerve fiber analysis.
We may sometimes refer you to the appropriate specialist for treatment depending on the location and extent of the disease. From networking with eye doctors since 1977, we have our special list of specialty doctors with the highest skills for different parts of the eye. Examples include: eye muscle doctors, corneal specialists, plastic surgery eye specialists, retinal specialists, eye tumor specialists, etc.

Oral and Topical Medicines
All of our doctors now prescribe oral medications in addition to topical medications for the eyes. The state of Illinois passed this legislation. In the near future there will be new medications put into contact lenses to help treat allergies and eventually medications embedded into contact lenses to treat glaucoma. We also treat other eye infections which may be of bacterial, allergic and viral etiology with the use of medications. We are always striving to keep up with new advances in eye care.

Diseases of the Eye: Examples
|
Retina
Many conditions and diseases can affect the retina. Some of these can seriously damage your vision. Age-related macular degeneration is one of the most common problems affecting the retina. In this condition, The macula deteriorates, and you gradually lose your vision. Retinopathy occurs when there is damage to the blood vessels that bring nutrients to the retina. A common form of this is diabetic retinopathy. As the name suggests, this condition occurs in people with diabetes (3). |
Cornea
The cornea can get injured or scratched. If the injury or scratch isn’t very serious, the cornea usually heals itself. With more serious injuries, you should see an eye doctor. Symptoms of serious corneal injuries include pain and redness in the eye, blurred vision, and light sensitivity. If you are allergic to pollen, you may experience symptoms in your eyes. Allergies can cause your eyes to itch, burn, sting, tear up or release a watery discharge. Eye dryness also affects the cornea. In this condition, your eye can’t produce enough tears to keep the surface of the eye wet. This may make your eye feel scratchy or cause pain and redness. Corneal dystrophy is a condition where material builds up in the eye. This can cause the cornea to become cloudy, impairing vision. There are several types of dystrophies that can affect your eye. The cornea can also be affected by infections such as shingles and herpes. Your eye doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs if you get one of these infections.
Keratoconus is when the cornea thins out and bulges like a cone. Changing the shape of the cornea brings light rays out of focus. As a result, your vision is blurry and distorted, making daily tasks like reading or driving difficult (1).
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve. Over 3 million people in the United States have glaucoma, and 200,000 more per year receive the diagnosis. It’s the leading cause of blindness for adults aged 60 and over. Glaucoma typically occurs when fluid builds in the front of the eye. This causes an increase in eye pressure that harms the optic nerve(2).
